★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Románská bazilika sv. Václava s kryptou sv. Kosmy a Damiána je postavena na místě, kde byl podle tradice roku 935 zavražděn a po tři roky pohřben sv. Václav. Založil ji spolu s místní kolegiátní kapitulou po roce 1039 kníže Břetislav I. a vysvěcena byla roku 1046. Od počátku byla zamýšlena jako velké mauzoleum nad hrobem největšího českého světce. Zprávu o vysvěcení kostela 19.5.1046 pražským biskupem Šebířem zaznamenal náš nejstarší kronikář, svatovítský kanovník Kosmas. Svatyně má půdorys trojlodní románské basiliky, která si až dodnes uchovala původní stavební dispozici a základy obou věží při západním průčelí. Jejím srdcem se stala románská krypta, kde se nachází mučedniště sv. Václava a místo jeho původního hrobu.
Romanesque Basilica of St. Wenceslas with the crypt of St. Kosmas and Damian is built on the site where St. Wenceslas was murdered in 935 and buried for three years. It was founded it by Prince Břetislav I together with the local collegiate chapter after 1039 and it was consecrated in 1046. From the beginning it was intended as a large mausoleum above the grave of the greatest Czech saint. The oldest chronicler St. Kosmas noticed the consecration by Prague´s Bishop Šebíř in May 19th 1046. The sanctuary has a ground plan of the triple-nave Romanesque basilica, almost unchanged until today with preserved foundations of both towers at the western facade. The core of the Basilica is the Roman crypt, where the St. Wenceslas original tomb was located.
