Katův dům je polygonální baštou třetího hradebního pásu městského opevnění, vystavěnou v polovině 15. století. Ve stejné době začala pod hradbami vznikat ulice Na Příkopě (dnešní Sokolovská), takže bašta byla v krátké době obklopena domy měšťanů a řemeslníků. V tomto stavení se měl tenkrát zabydlet i poslední kadaňský kat Ignác. Po jeho smrti se tu střídali majitelé, až po roce 1927 přešel dům do majetku města, koncem 20. století objekt zakoupil soukromník a dnes je tu prodejna s čajem a kořením.
