V současné době je hlavním farním kostelem farnosti Valašské Meziříčí. Od roku 1958 je chráněn jako kulturní památka České republiky.Kostel měl až do roku 1804 věže dvě,Druhá věž byla součástí opevnění,ale v roce 1804 byla pro zchátralost snížena a upravena na sakristii.
The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Valašské Meziříčí was erected before 1419 on the site of the older church of St. Kunhuty. At present, it is the main parish church of the parish of Valašské Meziříčí. Since 1958 it has been protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. The church had two towers until 1804, the second tower was part of the fortifications, but in 1804 it was reduced to a sacristy due to dilapidation.

The original Gothic parish church was dedicated to St. Kunhutě. The church was rebuilt several times and burned down many times in 1572,1607, several times during the 30th War of 1726, in 1576 the current tower with heraldic slabs and a massive Renaissance portal from 158 was built.
