V Brně proběhly v srpnu 1969 intenzivní demonstrace proti komunistickému režimu a přítomnosti sovětských vojsk na našem území (rok po začátku okupace v srpnu 1968). Odpoledne a večer 21. srpna 1969 demonstranti na určitou dobu ovládli části centra, stavěli barikády a pokoušeli se klást odpor zasahujícím represivním silám. Znovu se potom demonstrovalo 22. srpna. Po oba dny se v ulicích ozývala také střelba. I když okolnosti úmrtí a zranění obětí nebyly nikdy řádně vyšetřeny, je zřejmé, že nejčastěji byli původci střelby příslušníci Lidových milicí a komunistické policie SNB, kterým byla (na rozdíl od vojáků) vydána ostrá munice. 21. srpna padly první výstřely před pátou hodinou odpoledne. Na tehdejším náměstí Rudé armády (dnes Moravské náměstí) byla asi v šest hodin navečer do hlavy smrtelně zasažena osmnáctiletá Danuše Muzikářová (1951–1969), dámská krejčová z Brna. Její otec Jaroslav Muzikář usiloval po roce 1989 o nové vyšetření případu a potrestání viníků, což se ovšem již nepodařilo, z důvodu důsledné likvidace důkazů komunisty (např. dotyčná kulka z kriminálního archívu už před lety "zmizela", aby nebylo možno určit zbraň a jejího majitele). Také díky úsilí otce byl případ Danuše Muzikářové medializován a její oběť se stala symbolem represí a násilí nastupujícího normalizačního režimu.

An intensive demonstration against the communist regime and the presence of Soviet troops on our territory took place in Brno in August 1969 (a year after the start of the occupation in August 1968). In the afternoon and evening of August 21, 1969, protesters took control of parts of the center for some time, building barricades and attempting to resist encroaching repressive forces. It was again demonstrated on 22 August. There was also shooting in the streets for both days. Although the circumstances of the deaths and injuries of the victims have never been properly investigated, it is clear that most often the originators of the shooting were members of the People's Militia and the Communist Police of the SNB, who (unlike soldiers) were issued live ammunition. On August 21st, the first shots fell before 5pm. At the then Red Army Square (now Moravské náměstí) at about six o'clock in the evening, eighteen-year-old Danuše Muzikářová (1951–1969), a female tailor from Brno, was fatally hit in the head. Her father Jaroslav Muzikář tried after 1989 to re-investigate the case and punish the culprits, which, however, failed because of the consistent liquidation of Communist evidence (for example, the bullet in the criminal archives "disappeared" years ago owner). Thanks to her father's efforts, the case of Danus Muzikářová was publicized and her victim became a symbol of repression and violence of the incoming normalization regime.
