Trošku schovaný morový hřbitov. Skvělý průvodce vám poví mnoho informací i o okolí.
A little hidden plague cemetery. A great guide will tell you a lot of information about the surroundings.

Pro fanoušky stavitele Santiniho a pro fandy upírů super. Pátou hvězdu nemohu udělit pro nepřístupnost veřejnosti.
For fans of builder Santini and for fans of vampires super. I cannot award the fifth star because of the inaccessibility of the public.

Přijďte se podívat. Přinejmenším na originály soch z nedalekého mostu.
Come to see. At least the original sculptures from the nearby bridge.

Santini's other works in Žďár, unfortunately locked, therefore need to be admired only from the outside.

Lovingly received and well looked after with free entry. There was a slide in German to explain it. Definitely worth a visit.

The lower cemetery was founded in 1709 at the instigation of the abbot of the Žďár monastery, Václav Vejmluva, who was expecting a plague epidemic. However, it never broke out in Žďár and the cemetery, which originally had only three chapels (referring to the symbolism of the Holy Trinity) began to serve as a burial place later. The building was designed by Jan Blažej Santini-Aichel as the first local work. In the middle of the 18th century the cemetery was no longer sufficient and it was extended by the fourth chapel under the abbot Leopold Hennet. Its ground plan thus acquired a contemporary shape that resembles a skull. In the middle of the complex there is a statue of the Last Judge Angel with a trombone by the sculptor Gregory Theny, a pupil of the famous sculptor Matyas Bernard Braun, who worked in Žďár from 1729 - 1738. A great pity it was not possible to get inside!

Obviously little known Žďárská landmark. The cemetery, like the Pilgrimage Church of St. John of Nepomuk, was built on the basis of Santini's project, its floor plan is to resemble a skull. An interesting legend about the undead administrator Ulrich is attached to it. Admission is voluntary.
