The lower fortress in Kestřany comes from the end of the 14th century. At the end of the 15th century it was uninhabited and later used as a brewery. Gothic residential tower, cellars and fortified wall with bastion have been preserved to this day. It is currently undergoing a gradual reconstruction.

Kestrzany Castle in the village of the same name was founded in the middle of the seventeenth century by Count Karel Paar and his wife Františka Polixena of Schwamberk. The castle, together with the lower and upper fortresses, is protected as a cultural monument (the Upper and lower fortresses were probably founded in the second half of the thirteenth century. During the Thirty Years War (+ 1618-1648), the fortress served only for economic purposes). Until the middle of the sixteenth century, the Kestrzany estate belonged to the lords of Schwamberk. The last owner of this family was Jan Wilem of Schwamberk, who died on June 6, 1651. He bequeathed his property to three daughters, of whom Kestrzany passed to František Poliksen on October 12, 1652, who married Count Karel Paar. The estate then included the villages of Kestrzany, Lhota, Sudomerz, Dobev, Male Niepodřice, Velke Niepodřice and Zatavi. The old fortress of Kestrzany did not suit the new owners, so an early baroque castle was built next to it. The ornamental garden and vineyard were laid out at the same time as the castle. On January 20, 1700, Prince Ferdinand Vilém Eusebius of Schwarzenberg bought the Kestrzhany for 167,500 gold coins and added them to Protivin. The Schwarzenbergs built a large farm next to the castle to a design by architect Pavel Ignaz Bayer from 1720. The castle belonged to their family until the land reform of 1924. In 1924, the castle complex was taken over by the state, which used it as an apartment, a granary and a workshop. It has been privately owned since 2005. The core of the castle is a rectangular two-storey building with two short side wings. An arcade corridor once ran along the eastern façade. The main facade is highlighted by high pilasters and cornice. The ground floor used to be a stuccoed sala terrena and a cylindrical vault with sections.
