Uprostřed jednotlivých úseků vnitřního hradebního pásu byly do čtyř světových stran vystavěny vysoké hranolové městské brány: Pražská, Kolínská, Malotická a Olešecká a pod kostelem fortna, později zvaná Dřevařská nebo Katova. This house, as well as the opposite, are located in places where one of the four main gates in the city once stood - the Malotická Gate Preserved medieval walls of Kouřim began to be built in the second quarter of the 13th century, when the town itself was the royal city. However the present form of the fortifications dates back to its reconstruction in the middle of the 15th century. By the 16th century, a double belt of walls was spread around the city, supplemented by bastions, a moat and a rampart. In the middle of the individual sections of the inner fortification wall the high prismatic city gates were built on the four world sides: Pražská, Kolínská, Malotická and Olešecká. Only the northern Prague Gateis preserved until today. It escaped the efforts to revitalize the city after a major fire in 1811, when the city hall members decided to demolish the fortification and it´s gates. The Olešecká Gate was demolished in 1840, the Kolínská Gate in 1841 and finally Malotická gate in 1875. After the Hussite wars all the gates were strengthened by building of so-called pre-gate areas, of which only the remainder of the half-round tower of the former Malotická Gate was preserved underground of the smithy of Mr. Svoboda in house # 136. In Komenského Street, 15 m in front of the former Malotice Gate behind the medieval district of the city, a production facility was also uncovered in 2007-2008. it contained numerous burnt layers rich in slag, carbon and ceramics. Apparently it was used for metalworking. The obtained ceramic material and location of the object indicate it is earlier date than the Malotická Gate.

Today's appearance of the preserved fortifications, however, comes from its reconstruction after the middle of the 15th century. Until the 16th century, a double strip of walls spread around the town, complete with bastions, a moat and a rampart. Only the northern Prague Gate has survived, which escaped efforts to revive the city after the great fire in 1811, when the town hall decided to gradually loosen the city's grip, which gradually fell victim to the Oleš Gate in 1840, the Kolín Gate in 1841 and finally in 1875 i Malotická brána. After the Hussite wars, all gates were strengthened by the construction of the so-called fortress, of which only the rest of the half-cylindrical tower of the former Malotická gate in the basement of Mr. Svoboda's smithy No. 136 1.5 m thick walls are preserved from the level of the cellar, during the repairs of the house was discovered and preserved loophole).
