When some time ago the son expressed a wish that he wanted to see the griffin, my husband and I knew that we would fulfill this wish on his holiday. We all liked the statue, it is really impressive.

This is a beautiful place ... even though the castle is devastated, it enhances the interesting atmosphere of the place .... it is worth seeing ...

The impressive and nearly three-meter statue of the mythical Gryf (the body of a lion, the head and wings of an eagle) is located in front of the gate to the castle's prelature in the village of Pohled u Havlíčkova Brod.

The castle grounds obviously remember better times, the statue of the griffin is very nice. I hope that the current owner will bring the castle to a state where it will be a dignified environment for the statue.

A beautiful statue created at the request of the new owner of the chateau, who is said to have Grypha in his family emblem. The griffin is a mythical creature, whose mythological origin is said to date back to the 3rd millennium BC. It is depicted with a lion's body, an eagle's head, claws and hind legs, tail and wings. Gryf was the protector of gold mines and treasures in Central Asia. It is said to belong to the chateau, because Gryf was depicted as a shield bearer on the coat of arms fresco of the Silva-Tarouca-Unwerth family (original owners of the chateau) above the front door inside the chapel of the Virgin Mary from 1840 in the castle cemetery. And further from the other side, from the outside, in the triangular tympanum, which adorns the facade of the chapel.
