První doklady lokálního osídlení dnes datujeme do doby pozdního mpaleolitu (10 000 - 8 000 př.n.l.). V 5. a 6. století začínají území osídlovat Slované. The first evidence of local settlement dates back to the late Palaeolithic (10,000 - 8,000 BC). In the 5th and 6th centuries, the Slavs began to settle in the territory. The history of Horažďovice has always been connected with the nearby Prácheň. Already in the 10th century, a fortified settlement was built there, and about two centuries later the stone castle became the administrative center of the Prácheň region, which in the 13th century included approximately today's Horažďovice, Sušice, Kašperské Hory, Strakonice and Vimperk. The oldest reports (from 1251) concerning Horažďovice speak of the settlement of Gorazdejovice, founded by priest Gorazd, a pupil and successor of St. Method. In 1292 the settlement was promoted as the city by King Wenceslas II. The city gained urban rights, especially the fortification right, and was fortified in the short time afterwards. At that time a Gothic fortress was built, which was later rebuilt into a Baroque chateau.

Klidné místo. Krásně a citlivě rekonstruované náměstí. Červená brána se zajímavými sgrafiti.
Quiet place. Beautifully and sensitively renovated square. Red gate with interesting sgraffito.
