Židovské obyvatelstvo se usídlilo nejen v Žamberku, ale i v okolních městečkách a obcích, už v 17. století. Žamberská židovská obec přestala existovat v roce 1940. Židovský hřbitov v Žamberku pochází asi z 1. poloviny 17. století. Hřbitov byl v průběhu let několikrát rozšiřován až do nynější rozlohy, která je 2176 metrů čtverečních. Na ploše je dochováno asi 230 náhrobních kamenů z let 1731 - 1941, mezi nimi množství stél s bohatou symbolikou, charakteristickou pro východočeský region.
