This originally Gothic observation tower is the only surviving remains of fortifications. It dates from 1378, 1665 succumbed to a fire, but was restored in the 18th century as a fountain for the fountain in the square.

Like others, I liked the beautiful view from the sound. The guide (one at the entrance and the other at the top of the tower) gave a sufficient explanation.

The Watchtower is the only preserved remains of the fortifications of the medieval town. The former Old Town was located in the area of today's square of Jan of Dražice and Poděbradova Street. Originally a wooden wall built around it was, the brick wall with city gates was probably built by archbishop Arnošt from Pardubice in the second half of the 14th century. As part of the fortification, the Gothic observation and reporting tower, today's "Hláska", was built in the elevated position. It had never been damaged until the second half of the 17th century except in 1665, when it was almost destroyed during the great fire of the city. In the 18th century it was reconstructed and adapted for a new purpose. The water reservoir was placed here for a fountain on the Koňský market, today's Hus Square.

Watch Tower The watch tower (Hláska) is the only existing remainder ot the fortifications of the old Roudnice. The old town was located in the present-day Jana z Drazic square and Poděbradova street. Originally, it was enclosed by wooden walls. It was Jan Ocko of Vlašim who had solid stone walls with town gates built in 1378. As part of this fortification, a Gothic tower, today's Hlaska, was built on a heightened place to serve its observation and warning roles. Until the second half of the 17th century, it was not in any way damaged, with the exception of 1665 when it was almost destroyed during a great fire in the town. It was reconstructed in the 18th century and modified for its new purpose A water reservoir for the fountain on the Horse market, which is now Hus square, was placed here.
