The history of the Minorite monastery with the church begins in 1232, when King Wenceslas I donated this place to the monks. It probably used to be a smaller courtyard, perhaps with a church or a chapel. The monks began to construct the Gothic building-style convent and the church of St. James the Greater. The reconstruction after the fire in 1689 was completed around 1702 already in the Baroque style. Further modifications after the fire took place in 1754 and then in the 19th century. The monastery buildings contain a number of Gothic elements.
