Počátek jeho historie není znám, ale osudy má stejné jako mnoho jiných kostelů. Byl opakovaně vydrancován Švédy (ti brali co mohli, odtud až třeba po pražskou Valdštejnskou zahradu; vím, že to bylo podle tehdejšího válečného práva, ale stejně ...). V srpnu 1868 vypukl velký požár, který zasáhl značnou část města a kostel zdevastoval téměř ze sta procent. Pokud si správně pamatuji výklad průvodce, tak ten oheň vznikl nedbalostí řemeslníků nedaleko pracujících. The Church of St. Michael the Archangel is located in the Přerov part of Šířava. It used to be a parish church and so it belonged to four and a half villages (that half was part of the village Bochoř). The beginning of its history is not known, but its fate is the same as many other churches. He was repeatedly plundered by the Swedes (they took what they could, from here to the Prague Wallenstein Garden; I know that it was according to the law of war at the time, but still ...). In August 1868, a large fire broke out, which affected a large part of the city and devastated almost one hundred percent of the church. If I remember correctly the interpretation of the guide, then the fire was created by the negligence of craftsmen near the workers.

Historie Datum vzniku chrámu není známo, pravděpodobně se nejprve jednalo o menší kostelík náležející k bývalé vesnici Šířava, ta navazovala na městské tržiště. U původního kostela stála zvonice, z níž se zachoval zvon s datem 1496 a nápisem „Ad honorem Sancti Michaelis“. Kolem roku 1556 zde byl pohřben člen jednoty bratrské bratr Matěj Berounský.[1] Ke kostelu náležel ve středověku hřbitov. Pohřbívání zde skončilo roku 1832. Pod zdejší farnost spadaly vesnice Újezdec, Kozlovice, Želátovice, Moštěnice a část obce Bochoř. Kostel byl několikrát přestavěn, několikrát vydrancován v 17. století při vpádu Švédů. Velkou rekonstrukcí prošel v roce 1682 a v letech 1718–22 a 1791 – tehdy sloužil výlučně k pohřbům. V polovině 19. století u něj vyrostl klášter Školských sester. Pohromou se stal 17. srpen 1868, kdy požár zničil nejen vybavení, ale žárem se zřítila i věž s hodinami a zvony. Po této události byl kostel opět opraven do dnešního stavu. In the middle of the 19th century, a convent of the School Sisters was built next to it. August 17, 1868, became a disaster, when a fire destroyed not only the equipment, but also the clock tower and bells. After this event, the church was repaired again to its current state.
