V minulosti se v Lounech pohřbívalo při všech místních kostelech (14 sv. pomocníků, sv. Petr, sv. Mikuláš a kostel Matky Boží), ale během josefínských reforem měly být zřejmě všechny čtyři hřbitovy v Lounech zrušeny a měl
se postavit nový za městem. K tomu však nedošlo, byl zrušen jen hlavní hřbitov u sv. Petra a hřbitov kolem děkanského chrámu sv. Mikuláše, jehož zeď byla zbourána roku 1838. Po zrušení hřbitova u Matky Boží roku 1880 v souvislosti s dostavbou kasáren, nemohl městu stačit jediný hřbitov
u 14 sv. pomocníků. Proto byl roku 1887 založen nový u cítolibské silnice, těsně nad židovským hřbitovem (o 13 let starším). Pozemek, který dnes tvoří jižní část hřbitova, věnoval lounský děkan František Linhart. Ten byl také o dva roky později na novém hřbitově pohřben do hrobky u centrálního kříže.

In the past, all local churches were buried in Louny (14 St. Helpers, St. Peter, St. Nicholas and the Church of the Mother of God), but during the Josephine reforms, all four cemeteries in Louny were probably to be abolished and had
to build a new one outside the city. However, this did not happen, only the main cemetery at St. Peter and the cemetery around the Dean's Church of St. Mikuláš, whose wall was demolished in 1838. After the abolition of the cemetery at Our Lady in 1880 in connection with the completion of the barracks, not a single cemetery could be enough for the town.
at 14 sv. helpers. Therefore, in 1887, a new one was founded by the road in Chitolib, just above the Jewish cemetery (13 years older). The land, which today forms the southern part of the cemetery, was donated by the Dean of Louny, František Linhart. He was also buried in a tomb at the Central Cross in the new cemetery two years later.
