Sloup byl v době svého vzniku významným veřejným informačním místem pro lázeňské hosty a ostatní veřejnost. Naměřené a prezentované klimatologické údaje na tomto sloupu vypovidaly o momentálním klimatu v lázních, které bylo důležité i z hlediska léčebných procedur lázeňských hostů.
 The origin of the meteorological column dates back to May 15, 1882, when it was handed over to the public. At the time of its establishment, the Column was an important public information point for spa guests and other public. The measured and presented climatological data on this column revealed the momentary climate in the spa, which was also important from the point of view of the spa treatments.
