★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Vstup do Národního sadu poznáte bezpečně - tvoří jej velká dřevěná brána. Za vstupem najdete sousoší Pomník padlých od akademického sochaře Františka Juraně. Připomíná oběti první a druhé světové války. Jsou zde uvedena jména všech štramberských občanů, kteří zahynuli v těchto válečných dobách.
Vrch Kotouč pokrývají většinou přirozené lesy. Původní vegetace je jen vzácně zachována. Kamenité svahy s vápencovými skalkami osidluje nejčastěji suťový les s javorem babykou. Dále zde najdete vstavač bledý, kruštík bahenní, lilii zlatohlávek, skalník obecný, hvězdnatec čemeřicový, řešetlák počistivý, lýkovec jedovatý, rozchodníky, lomikámeny aj.
Kotouč je zbytek bývalého moře, vápenec z období mladší jury. Ten přilákal v 19. století vědce, odborníky, ale i podnikatele. Vápencový lom byl otevřen roku 1880 bratry Guttmanny. Na Kotouči žili lidé v pravěku i v době bronzové a nacházíme stopy po Keltech i Slovanech. Za Jezuitů byl též poutním místem a vedla tudy Křížová cesta ke kostelům na vrcholu.
