Nelahozeves zámek

Nelahozeves is Dvořák's birthplace (originally Nelahod's village) Nelahozeves Castle: Graffiti, which has recently been restored, is preserved on the walls of the northern representative wing of the castle. They depict scenes from the Bible and ancient mythology. It is an example of an Italian castello with bastions and access via a stone bridge over a moat Nelahozeves Castle is a three-winged, two-storey building enclosed on the corners by trapezoidal bastions in the manner of Italian castles. The strength impression of the wings is emphasized by the plinth made of bossed blocks, which is broken by arcades and portals. The walls, built mostly of stone, are decorated with sgraffito (depicting mythological scenes and scenes from the Old Testament - based on books, models with architectural patterns and decorative elements with engravings, mostly by Virgil Solis, but also by Albrecht Dürer (Adam and Eve) Italy). The courtyard is closed from the south only by a low wall, as the funds ran out before the construction of the fourth part. The arcades, from which the individual rooms of the castle were accessible, were originally open, which is a typical feature of the Italian style. Due to the colder Central European climate, they were later glazed. The main and fastest growing line was the Popelová from Lobkovice. From the beginning, they bet everything on loyalty to the Catholic faith and the Habsburgs. After the Battle of White Mountain, they acquired a huge fortune by buying up confiscations. In 1599, Zdeněk Vojtěch of Lobkovice became the highest chancellor of the Czech Kingdom. By his marriage to Polyxena of Pernštejn, he acquired Roudnice and in 1623 he was promoted to the status of imperial princes. He died in 1628. The Lobkovics are still living and richly branched family.

I will write this review twice. It was so: we went on a trip to Veltrus to the castle and gardens. And even though it has been a long time since the devastating floods, traces are still visible. After the tour we went to Nelahozeves on foot. But touring two locks in one day in hot weather - that's not a good idea. Well, whatever. We arrived properly plucked to the castle and said at the gate: "Not today, perhaps next time". That's why the review twice.

The Nelahozeves zámek train station will undergo a major renovation in the near future, and a new tunnel should be demolished nearby. The project is for that, just a lot of people don't like it very much. Be sure to visit the information center, which is in the building at this stop ... :-) Pleasant service, local refreshments, Antonín Dvořák.

A week ago, they opened a new information center here at the banhof, my dear lady, and she gave us the information we needed, plus they have a snack here.

The strategic location of the station is excellent for the train journey from Prague to Nelahozeves Castle. If you are traveling from the nearby area, you better get off the bus in Kralupy nad Vltavou, buy a snack in the nearby Penny by the Vltava River and then walk along the Dvořák Trail, which will take you to this station and then the castle. In summer, I recommend leaving at 9:00, when the breeze from the flowing river will refresh you and at the same time you can admire the limestone cliffs - suitable for portrait photos. In some places there are also gaps (escape exits from a nearby train tunnel), which attract to the urbex. As you can see, time stopped here about 50 years ago. The station looks like from the fairy tale "Freon's Ghost", it completely draws you into the distant past and you wonder what it was like here at the time of its glory. The journey to the castle (from the station) takes only 3 minutes, so leave your car at home. For refreshments, use the Marina Vltava restaurant, which can be found on Dvořák's Road.
