In 1850 a steam mill was built, in 1866 a brickyard and in 1868 a local sugar factory. The construction of the Prague - České Budějovice railway line in 1870 helped further growth even more. Since 1992, it has formed a part of the city of Prague 10. The new center of Uhříněves was partly built on the site of a demolished sugar factory. The urban concept of the square was created by Petr Starčevič. The dominant feature is the new town hall in the northeast corner of the square from 2002, which was designed by Eduard Cífka and Miroslav Lexa.
