Monument to Master Jan Hus on a stone pedestal with side relief sculptures, the work of academic sculptor František Vladimír Foit (1900 - 1971). The monument is 3 m high and stands on a 4 m high stone pedestal, which is massive in terms of volume. On the longer sides there are sculptural relief sculptures, from the front view on the right with the symbol of the Czech nation's enslavement, a scene from the Battle of White Mountain dated 8.11.1620 and on the left with a symbolic scene from the Czech nation's struggle for independence, culminating in the Czechoslovak Republic with dating 10/28/1918 František Vladimír Foit probably designed and built the monument from the so-called Mrákotín granite, the realization took place in the premises of the stone company of his father Ferdinand Foit (1874 -?) In the village of Doupě, near Telč. The sculptor's father, Ferdinand Foit, was a graduate of the school of sculpture and stonemasonry in Hořice, and in 1905 he founded a stonemason's company for processing granite in the village of Doupě. After the establishment of Czechoslovakia, the joint-stock company Mrákotínské kamenolomy a stavební podnik in Mrákotín processed the famous Mrákotín granite, but also allegedly imported from Norway and Sweden. The monument was originally intended for the Association for the Construction of the Hus Monument in Jihlava, where the association chose a place in front of the so-called discussion house, which was then the center of the Czech population. In 1928, on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the founding of the Czechoslovak Republic, a monument to Master Jan Hus was ceremoniously unveiled in Jihlava (today this place on Svobody Square). In 1939, during the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia, the monument was damaged by the Nazis and subsequently had it removed by the then city administration. Members of the Council of Elders of the Czechoslovak Church in Hlinsko learned about the liquidation of the statue of Master Jan Hus and decided to save the work of a Czech sculptor. On July 30, 1939, the monument was transported from Jihlava to Hlinsko and placed in the premises of Hus's choir. The stone pedestal dismantled into individual stones was transported by train, the monument itself and the relief sculptures were transported by a total of six trucks. In 1949, the Czechoslovak Church in Hlinsko bought land above the town on the northern slope of the hill (637 m) in the Na skalce locality in order to build a place of reverence such as an urn burial ground and with the intention of building a monument to Master Jan Hus transported in 1939 from Jihlava. The damaged work of the academic sculptor František Vladimír Foit was repaired according to the original model by the sculptor Jan Vejmělek from Řásná. The construction of the monument in the area of ​​the place of reverence, on the northwestern edge of the top part and facing north (to the town of Hlinsko) took place from 8 to 28 May 1950 and on 4 July of the same year the monument was ceremoniously unveiled on a stone pedestal. It stands on the highest point of the urn grove, which is managed by the City of Hlinsko as a burial ground, open to the public from April to October from 07:00 to 20:00 and from November to March from 08:00 to 17:00. The monumental work is impressive to look at, the place for placement in the landscape of the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands was well chosen, I recommend it for a tour. Directly from the statue, a partial view of the ridge of the Iron Mountains north of Hlinsko. The work is accessible from three tourist routes (red, blue, yellow) from the city center (Hlinsko - Betlém signpost) and also from the Spa Relaxation Trail, in the part led along the former Starokupecká road (west of the reverent area with a monument).
