During the Seven Years' War in 1757, a large part of the old Boleslav was burnt down and a battle was fought right at the wall of the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, during which the Prussian general von Wartenberg fell. He is buried in the crypt of the church and a cannonball is bricked into the north wall to commemorate the battle. The Seven Years' War was a large-scale armed conflict between 1756 and 1763 between the central European powers of the 18th century. The entire conflict was fought over a large area in its time, in Europe, America, Asia, Africa and the oceans, and is therefore rightly regarded as the first global military conflict - sometimes referred to as World War Zero.
