The beautiful building of the primary school stands on the site of a Dominican monastery from the 13th century, the only surviving building of the monastery is the chapel of St. John of Nepomuk.

The primary school in Nymburk at 446 Tursova Street is located on the territory of the former Dominican monastery. According to some sources, the monastery was founded simultaneously with the construction of the city itself in 1257, according to others - in 1275. The monastery enjoyed considerable support and flourished quickly. At the end of the 14th century, there were forty monks in it. Thanks to the generous gifts of royalty and wealthy townspeople, the monastery flourished. The situation changed dramatically during the Hussite wars. Some researchers believe that the monastery was destroyed by the Hussites in April 1421. Some historians believe that the monastery buildings in Nymburk survived, and only at the end of 1424 did its final destruction take place. It is believed that the townspeople of Nymburk were directly involved in the destruction of the monastery and church. From the original church of the Virgin Mary, only the Gothic brick presbytery and the nave along the perimeter have survived. In 1663, on the ruins of the old monastery, the Dominicans began to erect a new one, dedicated to the Virgin Mary of the Rosary. However, a heated and prolonged dispute broke out between the Dominicans and the city over the right to submit documents for deanery. The dispute was settled amicably in 1667 and the patronage of the dean's office and school remained outside the city. In 1674, the Dominican monastery was completed and flourished again. In 1773, there were ten priests and one brother in the monastery. However, sixteen years later, in 1789, as a result of the church reform of Emperor Joseph II, the Dominican monastery of Nymburka was abolished. Later, a school was housed in the building of the monastery.
