★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Jan Prokeš, elegán s kulatými brýlemi, žil v letech 1873 až 1935. Vyučil se obuvníkem a přes několik dalších zaměstnání usedl do křesla starosty města. A právě v době jeho mandátu starosty v roce 1930 (28. října) byla slavnostně otevřena Nová radnice. Náklady na stavbu činily 52 milionů korun.
V této monumentální dvoukřídlé budově najdeš sídlo magistrátu statutárního města Ostravy, sídlo Městského obvodu Moravská Ostrava a Přívoz, je zde také Moravskoslezská vědecká knihovna a pobočka České spořitelny.
Jan Prokeš, an elephant with round glasses, lived between 1873 and 1935. He taught himself with a shoemaker, and for several other jobs he sat in the mayor's chair. And it was at the time of his mayor's mandate in 1930 (October 28) that the New Town Hall was solemnly opened. Construction costs amounted to 52 million crowns.
In this monumental double-winged building you will find the seat of the City of Ostrava, the seat of the Moravská Ostrava and Přívoz municipal districts, the Moravian-Silesian Science Library and the branch of Česká spořitelna.
