About Restaurace Sokolovna
V jídle a pití se vždy vyplatí vsadit na tradici. Co bylo gurmánským zážitkem v časech prvorepublikových, nebude ani dnes požitkem o nic menším, spíše naopak intenzivnějším, protože vzácnějším. To my dobře víme a tradici ctíme.
Sokolovna je restaurant prosycený duchem 20. let. Budova v srdci Královských Vinohrad na Vás dýchne atmosféru, v níž slavní sokolové kdysi sedávali a probírali každodenní radosti i strasti. Mistrným šéfkuchařem tu býval i bratr samotné Magdaleny Dobromily Rettigové, jejíž recepty pro Vás kdykoliv zhmotníme v náramnou staročeskou pochoutku.
Ale máme tu i něco, co staří sokolové neznali – v prostředí nabitém cvičením i odpočinkem mohou všichni fanoušci pohybu sledovat i nejrůznější sportovní zápasy. K tomu Vám samozřejmě nabídneme široký výběr těch nejlepších piv, máme vlastní „pivní koncept“, v jehož čele k Vám míří tanková Pillsner Urquell. Tomu by ani sám náčelník Tyrš neodolal.
Staňte se na chvíli sokolem a přileťte k nám, litovat určite nebudete.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Nice traditional Czech Resuarant - previously P.E. place for sport. We got delicious "koleno" (pig knie) & "Svíčková" dish (vegetable / cream mixed sauce with Czech dumplings &cranberries.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I used to visit this restaurant quite often. That was 3 years ago. Since then it went aaalll the way down. Not proper glasses for wine (they got these small glasses and you can barely enjoy the wine from it). "Warm homemade potato chips" were cold and you could tell that they just bought them somewhere and put it on a plate. Salad with grilled brie on lettuce and vegetables. Let me tell you something - I had many salads with brie in my life - this was the worst. The vegetables was cut too big, the salad was boring, the brie was cold. I was very disappointed.
I give the stars for staff. They were very nice, nothing was a problem, they apologized for all the troubles. And the place is nice and clean.
I will probably not visit this place for food again, not even for wine. Maybe a few beers.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This place is absolutely great! They serve the beer at the right temperature (very cold) and the food is fantastic. Their pork ribs are delicious, super soft, and the sauce is great; also, a portion is 800 grams! It is a very good portion of amazing food.
The mixed sausages platter is also very good, they come witha goof amount of mustard, pickles and horseradish, excellent as a starter or to share over a beer. Their stews are excellent, I have tried the goulash and the pork stew, both of them with an amazing flavor, a good sized portion and amazing for cold weather. Ther tartar is also very good!
The place is usually crowded after 7, but if you get there around 6 you can easily get a table. The place is comfortable and very beautiful. The staff is friendly (even to tourists like us) and the service is good (it can be just a bit slow when the place is full). As any pub, it is a bit noisy, but nothing to be annoyed at, you can still have a conversation without raising your voice. The music is mostly pop, but it is played at a very low volume, so you really have to focus in order to listen to it.
Overall, this is a great place, amazing beer and food, great atmosphere and great service. Love it!

Unfortunately the card is very tricky since you never know what kind of meat your food contains.
I ordered Goulash since I know that’s usually a beef dish only, but the dumplings they served have been mixed with some kind of bacon, so I fully had to leave them, which was very sad since the overall taste was good.
The rest was totally fine, but I really do have a describe with places that do not correctly prepare their menu.
If you’re out with friends for drinks, it’s a great place, for food I can’t fully agree.
