Saint Roch of Montpellier (born around 1295 and deceased on August 16, 1327 in Montpellier) was a French Catholic saint, worshiped as a patron against the plague. According to legend, he came from a wealthy family. After his parents died, he distributed his property to the poor and set out as a simple pilgrim to Rome. During his journey, he allegedly miraculously cured many of the plague, but eventually became infected with the plague in Piacenza. He took refuge in the seclusion of the city to be there without help and died alone, but he was joined by a dog bringing food to Sick Roch. Roch recovered surprisingly and returned to his hometown. He walked away from the town to die helplessly, but a dog came suddenly appeared and bring the food to sick Roch. Roch was surprisingly healed and returned to his hometown.
