Mosty spojují břehy řek nebo překonávají hluboká údolí. Jeden vzácný a opravdu starý kamenný most stojí nedaleko Zbiroha a Kařeza na Plzeňsku, kde se klene nad železniční tratí na trase Praha – Plzeň už od roku 1875. Ovšem za celých dlouhých 140 let po něm nepřejel ani jeden vlak! Jak je možné, že most, který je vlastně k ničemu, dodnes stojí? Vydejte se s námi na kamenný most vedoucí odnikud nikam. Po mostě měly proudit tuny nákladu. Soukromé železniční tratě pruského podnikatele Bethela Henryho Strousberga, přezdívaného Král železnic, měly spojovat železářské provozy ve Zbiroze na Františkově s dalšími centry v obcích Kařez, Zaječov, Strašice, Dobřív a Mirošov. Ještě před dokončením celé tratě ale podnikatel zkrachoval. Po jeho krachu v roce 1875 už byly některé části tratě dokončené. Jak však šel čas, zmizely postupně na některých místech v krajině stopy po pražcích a kolejích, náspy i zářezy. Na některých místech je však násep tratě dosud patrný. Ten most tu hrdě stál připravený na své poslání. A stojí tu do dneška. V roce 1929 přežil i zdvoukolejnění tratě, která vede pod ním, protože s tím jeho projektant dopředu počítal a nechal postavit dostatečně široký oblouk. Most nebylo nutné bourat ani při elektrizaci pod ním vedoucí tratě v roce 1987. Kamenný oblouk byl dostatečně vysoký. A přečkal i poslední zásadní modernizaci tratě mezi Prahou a Plzní v letech 2008 až 2011. Most nikdy neplnil žádnou komunikační funkci. Je o něm možné bez nadsázky říct, že vede odnikud nikam. Výhodou a zároveň i nevýhodou mostu je fakt, že nikomu nepatří. Oprávněný adept na prohlášení za kulturní památku, o které usiloval Národní památkový ústav, má tak zatím smůlu, protože není s kým zahájit správní řízení. Na druhou stranu nemohla být ze stejného důvodu tato nepotřebná a neužitečná stavba zbourána při modernizaci tratě procházející pod ní. A tak kamenný krasavec dnes alespoň zdobí trať, na které je jinak už téměř všechno z šedého a nudného betonu. Zdroj: (visit link)

In 1929, he also survived the double-tracking of the line that runs below him, because his designer had anticipated this in advance and had a sufficiently wide arch built. It was not necessary to demolish the bridge even during the electrification of the line leading under it in 1987. The stone arch was high enough. And it also survived the last major modernization of the line between Prague and Pilsen in the years 2008 to 2011. The bridge never fulfilled any communication function. It is possible to say without exaggeration that it leads from nowhere to nowhere. The advantage and at the same time the disadvantage of the bridge is the fact that it does not belong to anyone. The rightful adept to declare the cultural monument sought by the National Monuments Institute is thus unlucky, as there is no one to initiate administrative proceedings with. On the other hand, for the same reason, this unnecessary and useless structure could not be demolished during the modernization of the line passing under it.
