The building of the Institute for the Study of Totalitarian Regimes was completed in 1975 for the Institute of Economic Information. It was originally planned as a temporary one, approval for permanent use did not take place until the 1990s. In 2018, more than 40 years after its commissioning, its first major overhaul began. It began to be prepared in 2003, when the building housed the Ministry of Informatics. The main reason was mainly the emergency condition of the building cladding. The reconstruction began in August 2017. In connection with the creation of a static assessment, large parts of the load-bearing steel structure were gradually uncovered, which resulted in the need for a partial change in the interior. In the summer of 2018, therefore, a complete reconstruction of the building was started. The date of completion of the reconstruction is planned for the second half of 2021.
