A strong school for Russian-speaking children!

We moved to Prague almost four years ago and the year before moving was our oldest child's first school year, so of course it was intimidating. I was initially looking for a school where Russian will be taught, but equally there will be a Czech curriculum. Veda was one of the few options (literally, the choice was from one or two schools) and I was afraid that under the "monopoly" experience would be unsuccessful. However, after almost four years of study (and choosing the same school for the second child), I can say that the experience was not bad and summarize the pros and cons: Pros: 1) Integration into local school culture without stress. Both of us (parents) are working and looking for a place where we will not need to help children cope with their studies. In particular, it is hard for me, as an empathic mother, if children are experiencing emotionally difficult periods, but here and so moving, if there was also a school in which no one could understand children in their native language - I am afraid, in that case, the experience of moving heavier. 2) Children, in principle, are calmer than in the St. Petersburg school. In St. Petersburg, the eldest child also went to a private school for six months, and the difference in behavior is incredible. He stopped nervously gnawing pens and pencils, began to smile more often after six months in the Veda. 3) Full-time school - although the load is more, but children also develop the habit of being busy from morning to evening with schoolwork earlier. 4) Small classes. It was initially great in terms of attention to each student, but now, in a pandemic, with distance education, it has become critical. A small class makes it possible to study video with more or less high efficiency. Online calls for 5-6 people and 20-25 people have radically different effectiveness. 5) Excellent teachers of both Czech subjects and Russian language and mathematics. children read fluently in both languages, are able to talk about a wide range of topics (history, geography of the Czech Republic and general topics on technology), write competently in Russian (3rd and 5th grade), which is an achievement in a non-native language environment. Minuses: 1) The key disadvantage is the turnover of children. Unfortunately, the composition of the class changes every year. It is difficult from the point of view of making friends and acquaintances children, and leads to the need to repeat some educational topics over and over again due to the appearance of children who do not speak Czech. 2) From time to time there is a chaotic organization of events, other organizational issues. But this is more of an inconvenience than a minus, it does not affect the quality of training, you can always figure it out. Summary: the school is well suited for those who want to educate a child of sufficient quality according to the Czech educational program with local accreditation, while preserving their native language (Russian) and minimizing the adaptive stress when moving, and for those who want to raise bilingual children in multilingual families (Czech-Russian ).

After moving to a new country, my two sons entered Veda School. From the first day they liked the school very much. Thanks to a professional, friendly team, the boys were able to quickly get comfortable and make new friends. The school has extensive experience in teaching in an international environment and even with the initial ignorance of the language, our boys were always explained everything, helped with assignments and supported them at every step!
