U křižovatky v Zábřehu, naproti obchodního areálu Kotva, slouží občanům od čtvrtku 27. 9. 2018 tzv. SMART WC. Slouží nejen jako toaleta, ale ve vstupní chodbě nabízí i přebalovací pult pro dítě a konektory k nabití telefonu. Současný přístup je zpoplatněn částkou 10 korun prostřednictvím sms. Veřejné záchody na Jihu získaly posilu ve formě SMART WC Smart WC „V současnosti běží zkušební provoz. Inteligentní toaleta bere energii ze slunce a online hlásí, kdy je třeba doplnit vodu na mytí a provést vyčištění. Telefony lze nabíjet zevnitř i bezplatně z venku kabiny a mrzí mně, že hned po třech dnech řešíme urvaný venkovní kabel právě na bezplatné venkovní dobíjení telefonu. Přístup dovnitř je zpoplatněn částkou 10 Kč prostřednictvím sms. Do měsíce budeme jako první v ČR mít možnost platit i bezkontaktní platební kartou. "Bude-li našim občanům vyhovovat, pořídíme další, návrhy na umístění nám již lidé zaslali v létě v rámci ankety“ uvedl starosta Martin Bednář. V městském obvodu Ostrava-Jih fungují již dva roky bezplatné veřejné záchody v podchodu v Hrabůvce u polikliniky. Jejich chod, stejně jako u záchodů na hřbitově v Zábřehu, zajišťují Technické služby Ostrava-Jih. Ty se budou starat také o novou Smart toaletu. Veřejné záchody, které na Jihu v současnosti fungují, si lidé chválí, nicméně je jich při velikosti obvodu málo. V plánu jsou proto veřejná WC na ul. Svornosti u tramvajové smyčky v Bělském lese a na tržnici u náměstí SNP. Právě Smart WC mohou být rychlou variantou řešení pro místa, kde veřejné záchody schází. Za umístěnou rozšířenou variantu TWIN zaplatí radnice celkem 300.000 korun
