★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Veselská brána byla součástí opevnění, které nechal v 2. polovině 16. století vystavět Jan III. ze Žerotína jako obranu proti turecké hrozbě. Součástí opevnění byl i val a vodní příkop obepínající celé město a druhá "Skalická" brána na západě. Z obou bran se dodnes dochovaly pouze mohutné boční bašty.
Veselská Gate was part of the fortifications, which was built in the second half of the 16th century by John III. from Žerotín as a defense against the Turkish threat. The fortifications also included a rampart and a moat surrounding the entire city and a second "Skalická" gate in the west. Only massive side bastions have survived from both gates to this day.
