 A taste of our history

Our marketing organization was formerly known as Prague Information Service (PIS). PIS was established in early 1958 as an information and educational institution to support tourism in Prague and was one of the city's public-benefit corporations. Since January 2015, the organization has used the “Prague City Tourism” marketing brand exclusively. It has thus become a modern marketing agency and service organization. In 2018, the Prague City Council decided to transform the public-benefit corporation into a joint-stock company, a change which took effect on 1 July 2020.

The beautiful water tower in the Neo-Renaissance style was built by the then independent town of King´s Vinohrady in 1882 according to the project of the architect Antonín Turek. The tower was part of the Vinohrady water supply system, which consisted of the old waterworks in Podolí, underground reservoirs, a pumping station and a tower reservoir on Korunní třída. The Vinohrady water tower on a square floor plan, 40 meters high, has seven floors. The latter is covered by a terrace, which previously served as a sought-after lookout tower. In 1962, the water container was decommissioned and the tower was rebuilt into four apartments. In 1991, the building was declared a cultural monument. Two years later, the reconstruction took place and the sculptural decoration on the tower was restored. The top of the tower is decorated with the corner pylons and the emblem of Královské Vinohrady. Between the windows of the top floor there are a tower clocks with Roman numerals on all four sides. They are operated by an electrically controlled Hainz mechanism, renovated during a complete renovation of the façade in 1993.

There is a children's playground nearby, where you can enjoy a wide range of activities. There is a volleyball and a basketball court, a large jumping inflatable trampoline, where children alternate according to age, so that no injury occurs. In the next part of the course is a large crawling castle, swings and other attractions and facilities with toilets and drinking water.

Beautiful calm place to visit. Not at all filled with tourists.
