V rámci své samosprávné působnosti OZ rozhodují o zásadních otázkách života obce, v tom m.j. schvalují program rozvoje obce, rozpočet obce a vyúčtování hospodaření za uplynulý rok, schvalují obecně závazné vyhlášky, zřizují právnické osoby nebo zařízení, rozhodují o účasti obce v obchodních společnostech a nadacích, o členství obce ve svazcích obcí, sdruženích ap. OZ se scházejí min. 4x ročně, k přijetí usnesení je třeba souhlasu nadpoloviční většiny všech členů, jednání jsou veřejná. Z jednání se pořizují zápisy, jež jsou uloženy na obecních úřadech k nahlédnutí
