The first mention of the existence of the village of Žďár nad Metují comes from around 1213, when the so-called Polický újezd was donated to the Benedictines by King Přemysl Otakar I. The donation was allegedly confirmed by King Wenceslas I. in 1229. Abbot Bavor in 1294 completed the present form of Žďár and its surroundings. He also added a part called Bavorov to the village. The Žďár area thus reached the confluence of the Metuje and the Žďárský stream. In the first half of the 15th century, a fortress called Vlčinec stood on the hillside above the town, according to untrue legends.

A když jdete v zimě, nemá to chybu. Cesta vás zavede nejprve vesnicí do polí, kde si užijete trochu větříku, ale na okraji lesa už to bude opět pohoda. První zastávkou bude určitě osada Ostaš s kempem, báječnou hospůdkou a možností ubytování v chatkách.
A small village near Teplice nad Metují, but an excellent starting point for a trip to the Ostaš table mountain. And when you go in the winter, it's not a mistake. The road will first take you through the village to the fields, where you will enjoy a little breeze, but at the edge of the forest it will be cool again. The first stop will definitely be the settlement of Ostaš with a camp, a wonderful pub and the possibility of accommodation in cottages.
