Obec je prvně zmiňována ve 14. století jako farní ves s kostelem sv. Bartoloměje, poddaná cisterciáckému klášteru Hradiště. Roku 1345 byla správa nad vsí a kostelem svěřena opatem hradišťského kláštera Markvartovi ze Zvířetic. Místní obyvatelé se živili během středověku zejména zemědělstvím a řemesly. Působil zde cech hrnčířský. Od 19. století se Bakov proslavil výrobou rákosového a proutěného zboží. Ve městě najdete několik pozoruhodných památek a je dobře dostupné především po železnici. Dnes tu žije necelých 6 tisíc obyvatel (v roce 1932 to bylo 3600 obyvatel). The origins of Bakov probably date back to the 13th century. Originally it was a fishing village. It was first mentioned in the 14th century as a parish village with the church of St. Bartholomew, subject to the Cistercian monastery Hradiště. In 1345 the administration of the village and the church was entrusted by the abbot of the Hradiště monastery to Markvart of Zvířetice. The locals made their living during the Middle Ages mainly by agriculture and crafts. Pottery guild worked here. From the 19th century Bakov became famous for the production of reed and wicker goods. In the city you will find several remarkable monuments and is easily accessible mainly by rail. Today there live less than 6 thousand inhabitants (in 1932 it was 3600 inhabitants).
