Nice and quiet village is located on the northern edge of the Protected Landscape Area Kokořínsko, on the border of the Czech Central Mountains and so called Mácha´s area. Settlement has existed here since prehistoric times, but the first historical mention of the village dates back to 1290, when Blíževedly (then referred to as a market village) obtained a market law from Prague Bishop Tobiáš of Bechyně and was subsequently promoted by King Wenceslas II. as a town. The development of the village was stopped by wars, first it was conquered by the Hussites led by Jan Roháč of Dubá, then came the Thirty Years' War. After 1550 German colonists settled in the local landscape. The plague of 1714 and the great fires of 1784 and 1859 also had an adverse effect. Today, Blíževedly is a popular tourist destination.
