Autorem této busty je sochař Štěpán Kotrba, tvůrcem bronzového odlitku busty i mramorového soklu je Josef Bursík, architektonické řešení provedl František Příborský a kamenické práce měl na svědomí podnik Českomoravský průmysl kamene. Pomník byl slavnostně odhalen 15. září 1979 u příležitosti 2. ročníku výstavy „Kultura a sport Pardubice 1979“, a to za účasti delegace ministerstva kultury ČSR, místopředsedy vlády ČSR a mnoha dalších předních státních i komunálních činitelů. V srpnu 2001 byla busta poničena vandaly. Následně došlo k její opravě, kterou provedl Karel Krátký. O 3 roky později došlo k její další renovaci, a to v rámci celkové rekonstrukce Smetanova náměstí. Tehdy se stala protiváhou fontáně na opačné straně parčíku a pro zvýraznění získala průsvitný portál.

The author of this bust is the sculptor Štěpán Kotrba, the creator of the bronze casting of the bust and the marble plinth is Josef Bursík, the architectural design was done by František Příborský and the masonry work was the responsibility of the Czech-Moravian Stone Industry. The monument was ceremoniously unveiled on 15 September 1979 on the occasion of the 2nd year of the exhibition "Culture and Sport Pardubice 1979", with the participation of a delegation from the Ministry of Culture of the Czechoslovak Republic, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Czechoslovak Republic and many other leading state and municipal officials. In August 2001, the bust was destroyed by vandals. Subsequently, it was repaired by Karel Krátký. 3 years later, it was further renovated, as part of a complete reconstruction of Smetana Square. At that time, it became the opposite of the fountain on the opposite side of the park and gained a translucent portal for emphasis.
