Butovické Hradiště

Relaxing terrain for walks with many views.

The nature trail Prokopské údolí - Butovice from the parking lot in Pod Vavřincem Street to Prokopské údolí is a nice and interesting walk. There are not only still visible remains of the fortified settlement (from the Late Stone Age, but also from the 9th century AD) but also nice views of the surroundings.

The hill fortified fortified settlement of Butovice represents an important archeological locality proving the settlement of the Prague basin. It is situated on a massive watchtower surrounded on three sides by the Prokopský and Dalejský streams. The site experienced its first settlement in the late Stone Age. The period of the Řivnáč culture around 3000 BC is documented by rich finds of fragments of pottery and stone tools of local production. On the contrary, settlement in the Bronze Age was very sparse. The second flourishing is a Slavic settlement with a peak in the 9th century. n. l. At that time, a fortification made of stone and clay was built along the entire perimeter of the watchtower and two lines of transverse ramparts, still well visible in the field as elevated boundaries. Butovice elevated fortified settlement is an important archaeological site proving the settlement of the Prague basin. It is situated on a massive stream, surrounded by three streams of Prokopský and Dalejský brook. The first settlement development found in a locality in the late Stone Age. The period of Řivnáč´ culture around 3000 BC is evidenced by the rich finds of fragments of ceramics and stone tools of local production. The settlement in the Bronze Age was, on the contrary, very sparse. The second bloom represents Slavic settlement with a peak in the 9th century. At that time, a fortification of stone and clay was built around the perimeter of the spur and two lines of transverse waves, still visible in the terrain as elevated limits.

It is worth climbing the hill, the view is beautiful. It sure looks even better in spring and summer. I do not recommend climbing in the rain, it gets muddy and very slippery.
