It's a little castle but really nice. You will need to do a short hike climbing the rock so you can follow the raod or go through the stairs (this is the hard part ?) lots of trees and nature. It's a family place but keep your eyes on the little ones. If you are visiting the area I would recommend to visit this castle.

We went on a snowy day and it was an absolute delight, the castle itself was closed, but the area is easily accessible for a hike by car and walk from the Kokorin village centre, the views are a lovely getaway from the city

Had an amazing time in Prague and decided to explore some places outside of the city. Was lucky to have family that knew where to go and wasn’t disappointed. Entry was cheap and parking next to nothing. The walk from the car park was long and up a steep road and up a ton of stairs but worth it in the end. The castle itself isn’t huge but the view from the top was lovely. Lots of walks and beautiful countryside and lakes in the surrounding area. If you’re there it’s worth a visit.

Kokořín Castle is located in the middle of a nature reserve on a steep rocky outcrop above the Kokořín Valley, north of the village of the same name, only 40 km from Prague. Built in the first half of the 14th century (first recorded mention dates from 1320) and heavily damaged during the Hussite Wars, the Austrian Emperor Ferdinand included this desolate medieval residence in “the cursed castles”, which were forbidden to be repaired after the Thirty Years War. The castle became a refuge for marauding knights who threatened the wider surroundings, but later served as inspiration for many 19th writers and painters. When it was purchased at the end of the 19th century by Václav Špaček, an aristocrat from Starburg, it had already been only a deserted ruin for a long time. He reconstructed the castle very expensively under the supervision of leading historians of the time (A. Sedláček, Z. Winter and Č. Zíbrt). The reconstruction lasted between 1911 and 1918 and then opened it to the public. After 1950, based on the agrarian reform laws, the castle was nationalized by the communist government. Kokořín Castle has been a designated national cultural landmark since 2001. As late as in 2006, the castle was restituted to the hands of the Špaček family heirs. Housed in a landscape full of forgotten villages, small lakes, and sandstone, you’re in for a lovely surprise at the place. Very nice castle which is in good condition. You can pay 100 czech koruna fee for the tour. They don't do it in English but they have printed text you can read about the castle. You can climb up on the top of the tower, it is a gorgeous view around the forest. They have birds like ravens and falcons which you can take pictures with.
