M	Marcus on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Ähm nja, wir haben es eigentlich nur mitbekommen, da wir gegenüber im Irish Pub waren und im 10-Minuten-Takt Stadtführer dort angehalten haben. Es ist ein Haus mit einer Tafel daran, dass hier Christian Doppler gelebt hat. Solche Tafel könnte man eigentlich an jedes Haus machen, also nichts besonderes!! Um, well, we actually only got it because we were in the Irish Pub opposite and stopped city guides there every 10 minutes. It is a house with a plaque on it that Christian Doppler lived here. You could actually make such a board on every house, so nothing special !!

Always nice to discover, the home of Christiaan Doppler (you know about the Doppler effect, and more) who lived here for a while and worked as an assistant professor of higher mathematics at the technical institute.

V	Vladimir Pecha on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ On the house No. 798 in the street "U obecního dvora" 5 zou can see a memorial plaque with a Czech-German text: "A mathematician and physicist Christian Doppler lived in this house in 1843-1847, * 1803 Salzburg † 1853 Venice". It was unveiled on March 10, 2006. In 1835, Doppler became a professor of mathematics in Prague, and in 1836 he held an optional lecture course on mathematics in 1836. In 1837 he was instructed to perform lectures on geodesy and in 1841 he was appointed as a professor of elementary mathematics In 1843, he became a full member of the Royal Czech Society of Science, devoting himself to many disciplines. He dedicated his research to a number of fields and disciplines, the Doppler's effect is very widely used from basic physics to astrophysics. Na domě čp. 798 v ulici "U obecního dvora 5" narazíte na pamětní desku s česko-německým textem: „V tomto domě žil v letech 1843-1847 matematik a fyzik Christian Doppler, * 1803 Salzburg † 1853 Benátky". Deska byla odhalena 10.3.2006. V roce 1835 se Doppler stal profesorem matematiky na reálce v Praze a v roce 1836 konal na technice nepovinné přednášky z vyšší matematiky. V roce 1837 byl na technice pověřen konáním přednášek z geodézie. V roce 1841 byl jmenován profesorem elementární matematiky. V roce 1843 se stal řádným členem Královské české společnosti nauk. Věnoval se mnoha oborům a dodnes je v řadě aplikací využíván tzv. Dopplerův jev.
m	macedonboy on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This is a commemorative plaque to mark the house where Christian Doppler stayed between 1843 and 1847. The house is a private house and there’s nothing there concerning the physicist. The plaque is made of bronze and has a relief sculpture of Doppler in portraiture. And engraved with words related to his stay in Prague. It’s certainly not a must-see, nor even if visiting the Old Jewish Quarter. I did physics and fully appreciate the work he did, along with Hippolyte Fizeau on our understanding of the Doppler Shift, especially on astronomy. Plus one just because I love physics.
