By the end of the 19th century, Roudnice nad Labem was a town where economic and cultural life was developing. Former Bohemian school for boys (since 1874) and the girls' bourgeois school (since 1883) were no longer sufficient for the growing number of pupils. That is why the city council under the leadership of the patriotic mayor of Ervín Špindler, issued a competition for a new building of the bourgeois schools in 1907. The design of architect Viktor Šulc from Pilsen won. Facade was designed by architect R. Furst of Brandýs nad Labem. The construction was started in the spring of 1911 by local construction company of Stanislav Plechatý. Already in September 1912, teaching began here. The school was generous in it´s time, and it´s internal division was also extensive. The complex had 19 classrooms, five drawers and workshops, three headquarters, two colleges, gym, spa, 14 cabinets, and two dwellings (for the director and for the janitor).
