The impressive prismatic fortification tower was part of the original city fortifications. The older part of the walls of the original core of the city was built during Wenceslas I. At the end of the 14th century, the city expanded to the north, east and south and built new walls, places with battlements and prismatic towers. In 1705, the tower was rebuilt in the upper part into a baroque observation pavilion. Since 2012, there is a Puppet Museum. The Gothic system of walls, which has been preserved to this day, was created in two stages. The inner wall dates back to the years 1360 - 1380. It is sometimes ten meters high, up to two meters thick with jagged battlements and prismatic towers. The outer wall of the fence, originally 4.5 meters high, was built around 1513 and has been preserved to a height of about three meters, up to 1.2 meters thick with several horseshoe-shaped bastions. And it was the western tower that was modified in 1705 as a lookout pavilion called the Jesuit Observatory. The impressive prismatic tower tower was part of the original city fortification.
