About Hanoi Restaurant

Due to the shape of the land and the long history, Vietnamese Cuisine has differences between The North, The Middle and The South. The food of the north is famous for its stir-fries and noodle-based soups. As you move south, there is more flavor blending with nearby Thailand and Cambodia. The tropical climate down south also sustains more rice paddies, coconut groves, jackfruit trees, and herb gardens. The food in southern Vietnam is typically sweeter: sweeter broths for pho, more palm sugar used in savory dishes, and those popular taffy-like coconut candies made with coconut cream. All in all, Vietnamese cuisine contains this brilliant balance of aromatics, heat, sweetness, sourness, and fish-sauciness. As with other Asian cuisines, it's all about yin and yang; the sweet and the salty, the cooling and the warming, the fresh and the fermented. Hanoi Restaurant offers our special dishes from all over Vietnam.

I've been coming here for a few years now as I live very close to the restaurant. I have to say, the food is pretty great. I always go for the pho bo and it's always excellent. However, I've recently noticed a real downturn in the service. Often I come here to find the cook serving the customers. Trying to balance a semi-busy restaurant as a waitress and a cook at the same time, it can be a very long wait for food. But also, when the manager is in, his mood has been frosty as of late. I've just witnessed two German tourists walk in and walk to the other side of the restaurant and he shouted at them to close the door in a rude manor, even though he was nearer. How were they supposed to know that the door doesn't swing shut when they've never been here before? And why was it such a big effort for the manager to close the door? The miffed couple then walked out and refused to eat here, which I think I would do the same had I been made to feel that unwelcome on my first few seconds in the restaurant. So 3 stars for food. It could have been a 4 or 5 had the service not become so shoddy.

Given the many good ratings for the restaurant, we were very surprised at the quality of the food, which by any international standard was not high. I give Hanoi restaurant three stars, because it is inexpensive and in this sense “good value”; but I have trouble calling it “good” otherwise. I found it gloomy, as it is underground - if I were a local, I could see eating here as a change from usual food, but as a visitor I wish we had eaten elsewhere.

Probably my favorite restaurant in town. Not an exaggeration, not ironic. I love this place so much. It's basement setting, cheap and HUGE bowls of delicious Pho, stir fried morning glory with white rice, shrimp soup to wash it down, large beers that somehow feel stronger than a normal 10 degree??? (maybe it's the mood lighting). I love the mirrors on the wall so I can stare at people and myself while we're all slurping away on our delicious food. I love this place with my whole heart. The prices have gone up a bit lately, but it won't deter me!

One of the restaurants that I'll definitely return when in Prague!! Nice environment, the food is really good! The staff are also very kind, making it even better. I'll give four stars since it is a smoking allowed restaurant, if it weren't for this, I would give five stars.

Everything in the restaurant smells. A food. Cutlery. A waiter. Food was below average

In the 22 years I have lived here in Prague this is arguably THE BEST Vietnamese restaurant I’ve had the pleasure of dining. The food is so good that no description could do it justice. The prices are modest; 60 to 120 lč. The service is friendly, fast and informative. The atmosphere warm and relaxing and the amenities clean and adequate. Fast WiFi too. The best find I’ve had in a long time.

Incredible sushi in Prague, not city center, but very close, authentic personal and comparison between the quality and price is amazing.

Located in a residential area, the entranceway leads you downstairs to a reception and bar area with various nooks, crannies and alcoves from which yoy can choose your preferred seat, especially early evening before this Vietnamese restaurant gets busy. Wide choice of oriental dishes and friendly service. Curiously, the menu indications about beer strength (ABV) don't appear to be all that accurate!!
