Homolka Nature Reserve is one of the most important geological outcrops in the territory of our state. There is a typical locality of the Silurian valley, which was taken as the basis for the world division of the highest part of the Silurian formation and which is named after the local locality of the valley, and there is an international stratotype of the border between the Devonian stages of Lochkov and Prague. There are also several world-class fossil deposits worldwide. Joachim Barrande and his contemporaries have already studied the local profiles. In the quarries, limestone used to be mined for the production of lime, for building stone, gravel and bristles, and the famous so-called black mosaic for Prague sidewalks was also used from it. In the western neighborhood of Homolka, dolomitized limestones were mined by a mining system. The Homolka Nature Reserve is one of the most important geological discoveries on the territory of Czech Republic.
