Nice cemetery with a monument to the last rest of the First Republic Prime Minister Antonin Svehla

The oldest cemetery in Hostivař was originally located right next to the Church of the Baptism of St. John the Baptist. It was abolished, like many others, in 1784 by a decree of Joseph II, which forbade burial in the middle of inhabited villages. The new Hostivař cemetery on a hill above the village was founded in the first half of the 19th century and some tombstones from the old cemetery were transferred here. The new cemetery is divided into an old and a new part. The most important buried personality here is undoubtedly the local native Antonín Švehla, the Prime Minister during the First Republic and a close friend of T.G. Masaryk. The tomb with the monolith was designed by Josip Plečnik himself. The oldest cemetery was originally located in Hostivař directly at Stětí sv. John the Baptist.
