Nice church and a pity that the viewpoint is only open on Rokycany Day

Originally a dean's church, first mentioned in 1110, is the main sacred triple-nave object in Rokycany. It´s foundations lie in Gothic. Up to now, it was modified late Baroque and Classicist reconstruction at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. It is protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. The history of the Church of Our Lady of the Snow in Rokycany dates back to the earliest mention of Rokycany in the Kosmas Chronicle from 1110, where it is mentioned that there was a bishop's court here. Another mention is also from the 14th century when it became the main temple of Rokycany as it transformed from a sprawling settlement to a medieval fortified city. Archbishop Arnošt of Pardubice established the church of the Augustinians at this church in 1363, and the building became part of a fortified area including the chapel of St. Anne and the Archbishop's Castle. In 1784 the church burnt down and was subsequently rebuilt in 1788 by the architect Palliardi. The tower was replaced only by a wooden bell tower. The stone tower itself was added only in 1823 by the Prague builder of Hogerem and in 1856 it was raised by the fourth floor. It is now 66 m high.

It was beautiful weather for Rokycany Day, and the church tower was made available on this occasion. It was worth it for those few steps and a little effort.

Church in the very center of Rokycan. Luckily, at least in this part of the city, comrades were not allowed. The rest of Rokycan had no such luck.
