V malebné krajině, na okraji Středočeské pahorkatiny mezi Orlickou přehradou a Příbramí, na žulovém kopci s poetickým názvem Maková hora, protkaném zlatými žilami, jihovýchodně od obce Smolotely, se nachází skromné, barokně čisté poutní místo, kostel sv. Jana Křtitele a Panny Marie Karmelské, vystavěné významným architektem Carlem Antonio Canevallem, dokončené v roce 1722 a později 5.10.1723 vysvěcené biskupem hrabětem Šporkem. Spolu s kostelem byl zbudován, pravděpodobně na místě dnešní fary, klášter karmelitánů.

In a picturesque landscape, on the edge of the Central Bohemian Uplands between the Orlická Dam and Příbram, on a granite hill with the poetic name Maková hora, interwoven with golden veins, southeast of the village Smolotely, there is a modest, baroque pilgrimage site. John the Baptist and the Virgin Mary of Carmel, built by the important architect Carl Antonio Canevall, completed in 1722 and later on October 5, 1723, consecrated by Bishop Count Spork. Along with the church, a Carmelite monastery was built, probably on the site of today's rectory.
