Přestavba z počátku 19. století tvář stavby podstatně změnila, prvky středověkého gotického jádra lze však spatřit dodnes. První bezpečná zpráva z roku 1417 dává tušit, že svatyně již nějakou dobu předtím existovala a plnila svou funkci. Jméno patronky sv. Kateřiny Alexandrijské v pozdějších letech ovlivnilo pojmenování celé zdejší obce Kateřinky. Vnitřek kostela skrývá 14 obrazů zobrazujících zastavení křížové cesty, namalovaných Janem Lukášem Krackerem roku 1761. V zahradě kostela je umístěna socha sv. Floriána. Skulptura ochránce před požáry zde byla přenesena roku 1923 z křižovatky Ratibořské a Černé ulice. Práce neznámého autora z roku 1721, zachycující patrona v podobě římského vojáka s kopím vylévajícího vědro s vodou, patří k významným opavským barokním památkám. Church of st. Kateřiny is one of the oldest religious buildings in Opava and its surroundings. Reconstruction from the beginning of the 19th century changed the face of the building, but elements of the medieval Gothic core can still be seen today. The first safe report from 1417 suggests that the sanctuary had existed for some time before and had fulfilled its function. Name of patron Saint. Catherine of Alexandria in later years was influenced by the name of the whole village Kateřinky. The interior of the church contains 14 paintings depicting the Stations of the Cross, painted by John Lukáš Kracker in 1761. In the garden of the church there is a statue of St. Florian. The sculpture of the Defender of Fires was transferred here in 1923 from the intersection of Ratibořská and Černá streets. The work of an unknown author from 1721, depicting a patron in the form of a Roman soldier with a lance pouring a bucket of water, is one of the important Baroque monuments in Opava.
