Original parish church of st. Wenceslas in Švihov stood on the present site already in 1384 and was gradually rebuilt and enlarged. In 1744 it burnt down completely and only the perimeter walls remained. It was repaired and already in 1746 dedicated to St. Václav. František Maxmilián Kaňka is associated with the reconstruction. There was a city cemetery around the one-nave church, which was abolished by a patent of 1784.
