V roce 1901 přešla do správy městské obce a její název se změnil na Veřejnou knihovnu a čítárnu královského města Loun. Původně sídlila v domě č. p. 511 v ulici Na Valích. Dostavěním Kulturního domu v Lounech v roce 1979 získala knihovna nové prostory a čekalo jí stěhování. V roce 2010 se instituce přestěhovala do nových prostor na adresu Mírové náměstí 1. The Municipal Library in Louny was founded on 29 May 1898 at the instigation of the Barák Workers' Association. In 1901 it was transferred to the city administration and its name changed to the Public Library and the reading room of the royal town of Loun. Originally, it resided in the house No. 511 in Street "Na Valích". With the completion of the Cultural House in Louny in 1979, the library acquired new premises and was waiting for another moving. In 2010, the institution moved to new premises at Mírové náměstí 1. The Municipal Library in Louny was founded on May 29, 1898 on the initiative of the Barák workers' association. Půjčuji zde knihy nejen pro sebe, ale i pro rodiče a jsou zde vždy připraveni něco zajímavého doporučit. Knihovna je současně kulturním a komunitním centrem. I have been to the Louny library since my childhood. The current location in the former building of the Municipal Court suits the library. I borrow books not only for myself but also for parents and are always ready to recommend something interesting. The library is also a cultural and community center.

Její dnešní funkce, vzhledem k postavení nové radnice - viz mapa, je adekvátní a jako u všech zařízení toho druhu, velmi prospěšná.
