The city walls date from the 13th century and were built soon after the founding of Klatovy by Přemysl Otakar II. The main wall had 24 towers and 3 main gates (Prague, Imperial and Lubsk). In front of this wall was a moat and an outer wall with another moat. The outer wall had 13 horseshoe-shaped bastions. The fortifications are best preserved on the east side. The system of walls was so perfect that the city was almost impregnable. The double walls are best seen from Hostašovy sady. Nearby you will find two defensive towers Okrouhlice (one in Sady J. Vrchlického, the other at the summer cinema). The bastions at the inner wall in Pavlíkova Street are part of residential houses, the prismatic bastion between No. 7 and 8 is even used as a tea room. At the beginning of the first half of the 19th century, the local walls suffered the same fate as in other Czech cities. Extensive sections were demolished in connection with the growth of Klatovy and the expansion of new buildings outside the medieval floor plan of the city.
