They have never been a typical agricultural village since ancient times. Today there live about 500 inhabitants. The immortal legend of Horymir and his horse was first recorded in the 16th century by the historian Václav Hájek of Libočany in his Chronicle of the Czech Republic and at the end of the 19th century it became even more famous by Alois Jirásek in the Old Czech Legends.
